Visiting Durdle Door Holiday Park with Specific Requirements

Durdle Door Holiday Park is set on gently sloping land, above the South West Coast path with access to Man O’ War beach and the famous Durdle Door landmark via a steep path with steps onto the beach, which may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Dogs are welcome at the Holiday Park, but owners are requested to keep them under control and on leads whilst on site. Dog bins are located throughout the Holiday Park.

 

Our Accommodation

Holiday Homes

Durdle Door Holiday Park has 367 static caravan holiday homes, of which 37 are for hire, the remainder are privately owned. All of our caravans for hire have a car parking space adjacent to the caravan holiday home, and outside space with furniture. There are steps fitted to the entrance doors on all of the caravans, either two or three tread with a handrail.

We have one accessible caravan holiday home, sleeping four, with wheelchair access. This unit is fitted with an entrance ramp, a galley style kitchen, sliding internal doors and lowered countertops. This unit is pet-friendly. For the convenience of our customers it is located nearby to the Man O’ War Bar and Restaurant, shop and Reception.

Skylight Cabins

We have four Skylight Cabins, suitable for up to 2 adults and 2 children. There is a mezzanine level with two single beds, accessed by a ladder of 6 steps and height of 180cm. The maximum headspace on the mezzanine level is 97cm. There is a sofa bed downstairs capable of sleeping 2 people. There is a kitchen with under counter fridge (including small freezer compartment), gas hob, and microwave grill. Access to the Skylight Cabins is via a set of either 4 or 5 tread steps with handrails. The Cabins have an outdoor area with seating.

Horizon Heights Villa

The Horizon Heights Villa is suitable for 2 adults and 2 children, with a mezzanine level featuring two single beds. There are 9 carpeted stairs with handrail to access the mezzanine level, which has a maximum headspace of 93cm. The downstairs sleeping is a double bed. There is a set of steps on the decking, with gate and outdoor seating provided. The decking is accessed via 3 steps with handrail.

Shepherds Huts & Camping Pods

We have 7 Camping Pods on the Park: 5 within the Abbeyfield Touring Area and 2 at the far end of the Rookery Camping area. Our Camping Pods sleep up to 4 and have plug sockets and an electric heater inside, with guest access to the shower and toilet block located within the Rookery Camping area. There are 2 or 3 steps to the door of each Camping Pod.

We have 3 Shepherds Huts capable of sleeping up to 4 on a king size bed and sofa bed, and accessed via a set of 3 or 4 tread steps. Within the Shepherds Huts are electric sockets, an electric heater and underfloor heating, with access to the shower and toilet block mentioned above.

 

Touring & Camping: Abbeyfield Touring Pitches, Seaview Campervan Pitches & Rookery Camping Area

15 Seaview pitches: these pitches are set on sloping grass, with access to individual electric hook-up for motorhomes, caravans and campervans of up to 5 metres in length. There is a shared water point positioned behind the pitches, separated by a rope barrier, which guests can drive up to. There is also access to grey waste and chemical disposal elsewhere on the Park. Toilets and showers are located within the Rookery Camping area within 400 metres of the Seaview Campervan pitches. There is more information on the toilet and shower facilities below.

37 Abbeyfield Touring pitches: these pitches are gravel hard standing with some grass surrounding the gravel, and come with individual electric and water hook-up. This area is suitable for vehicles up to 9 metres in length, including: motorhomes, caravans, roof tents and trailer tents. There is also access to grey waste and chemical disposal elsewhere on the park. The Abbeyfield Touring pitches run parallel to the Rookery Camping area, where the toilet and shower block is accessed via a single pathway linking the two. 15 Rookery Camping pitches: this area runs parallel to the Abbeyfield Touring pitches, and caters 15 unallocated tent pitches. The maximum size of tent allowed is 18 squared metres, and only one tent is allowed per pitch. There is no access to electric on these pitches. The toilet and shower block is located at the end of the Rookery Camping area.

 

Touring, Camping & Glamping facilities

The showers, toilets, baby changing units, washing machine, dishwashing and chemical toilet disposal are located within the Rookery Camping area. There is also a shower with seat, basin and toilet located in this building accessed by using a Radar key, available from Reception for those not having their own. Water points are also nestled amongst the trees.

 

The Park

For the safety of all our guests there is a 5 mph speed limit and marked speed bumps throughout the Park. There is a level short stay car park adjacent to the Shop/Restaurant/Reception area for use when booking in on arrival. Access to Reception is either by a gentle ramp with handrail or by two steps. Reception has a low level counter for easier access. Reception is open everyday from 9am; closing times vary according to the season but are displayed together with an emergency telephone number outside the main door. Tourist information leaflets can also be found in Reception. Over the busy summer period, we have a security presence from the evening until the early hours of the morning.

 

Durdle Door Stores /Spar provides a wide range of goods:- general groceries, camping accessories and gifts. Open everyday from 8am (closing times vary, but are displayed outside). Access is by ramp with wheelchair access.

 

Man O’ War Bar & Restaurant is located next to the shop, offering a variety of entertainment, bar menus, specials board, local ales and a take-a-way menu from 1st March to 31st October. Entrance is via a ramp with the doors wide enough for wheelchairs. There are also gents, ladies and accessible toilets in the Bar.

 

Local Transport

Garrison Taxis (Telephone number 01929 463395 and free phone 0800 666666) offer eight and seven seaters plus wheelchair access vehicles. Please advise them of your requirements when booking.

There is a regular bus service to and from Dorchester (Door to Dorset 103 service) usually operating a low floor accessible vehicle. This route connects with the local train station at Wool, the main Weymouth – Waterloo line.

From Wool Railway station the X53 service is available, this service runs daily including public holidays and is a coastal route stopping at many villages and towns including Poole, Wareham, Weymouth, Abbotsbury, Burton Bradstock, Bridport, Charmouth, Seaton, Beer and Exeter.
