Campervans: The Great British Holiday Revival

Filling a campervan with family members, food and blankets, and setting off for the open road… sounds idyllic, and rightly conjures images of wide open spaces and laid back, beach vibes. Those in the know have been campervanning for years, but recently, hires are booming.

It’s easy to see why, as the feeling of security afforded by staying in your own portable accommodation, mixed with the freedom of being able to pitch up in the country’s lesser known spots, makes for an ideal, covid-safe holiday option this year.

What to look for in a campervan pitch?

Durdle Door Holiday Park is ideal for beginners and the more experienced campers alike. We offer two types of pitches:

  1. For any campervan under 5m long, our Sea View Campervan pitches are ideal! A short walk from the facilities, these grassy pitches benefit from electric hook-up included in the price, in addition to an incredible view of the bay all the way over to the peninsula of Portland, adjoining Weymouth.
  2. Anything longer than 5m has its home on Abbeyfield fully serviced premium pitches. You’ll have your water, electric and grey waste (on your pitch or a short walk away) on a hard-standing gravel pitch.

All our pitches slope so it’s best to hire some chocks or levellers (or we have breeze blocks on the pitches which you’re welcome to use!) for a comfy night’s sleep.

Shore Campers – based in Bournemouth, near to us in Dorset, Shore Campers are Dorset Tourism Award winners who recently visited Durdle Door Holiday Park….

“What a great campsite – beautiful surroundings and all the facilities we needed. The Man O’War bar/restaurant was the first ‘pub’ we’ve been to for months – so great to have a pint and a nice meal out. The kids loved the adventure park too. Amazing scenery all around and great being so close to the beach, Durdle Door and Lulworth cove – Jane even went in for a swim! It’s great to be able to go camping again… this is just the beginning!”

Shore Campers offer 5 different campervans, each with its own name and personality, and a host of fab features. Which will you try for your first adventure?

If you’re looking to buy something unique to start more frequent adventuring, Barefoot Caravans are uniquely styled mini caravans to suit couples considering buying their own caravan to tow.
